The new experimental recording, Clear, represents the sum total of Periphery’s unrivaled achievements. Clear is set for a Jan 28th North American release. Jake Bowen (guitars) states: “Clear is an experiment to explore all of the different writing styles in the band. It’s rare when you have a band where every member is capable of writing and producing music. With each member controlling their own track, this recording enabled us to go down any path we chose in terms of style and sound.
Every track also contains a melodic theme established in Clear’s intro track ‘Overture.’ This common thread links all of the songs together, even though they all sound wildly different. Clear shouldn’t be confused with our new 3rd full-length album that we’re currently working on, nor should it be considered an EP as it rides somewhere in-between, clocking in at 30 minutes. Enjoy!”

Were the songs written completely by that one person?
We basically said that each person would have one song that they are the “creative director” of. They can do everything themselves if they want, or enlist anyone else’s help if it would help their vision of the song come to fruition. At the end of the day, every aspect of each person’s song was ultimately their call, no matter whose help they got.
Just to confirm: is Juggernaut (or whatever you’re calling the third full-length) still a separate project?
Yes, as we said in the press release, this has nothing to do with Juggernaut and we are still working on that.
Do you guys think you will play anything from Clear in your live set?
There aren’t any plans to anytime soon. That’s not to say we won’t ever, but we wrote it as a writing experiment moreso than material we want to perform live.
How did you handle the production of Clear?
I produced the Overture, Jake’s, Mark’s and my track. Nolly produced his, and Matt and Spencer went to Taylor for their tracks. about 14 hours ago1 person likes this Is Clear what you worked with David Bendeth? Clear was an experiment we did ourselves. We are looking at potentially working with a producer for the band’s 3rd and upcoming full length, for that we did a test track with Bendeth.
What guitar did you use to record ‘Zero’?
I used my BMW Blue Jackson Custom Shop 7 with a Bareknuckle Juggernaut set. That guitar is kinda unreal.
Would it be too much at this point to expect a 2014 release for Juggernaut?
We would like to have it out by late 2014 if possible.
Misha I’m so excited to hear your song Zero! The jazzy part gave me goosebumps already so I can only imagine what the whole song will do! Was Alex Argento your main influence on that part?
As much as I enjoy Alex Argento, I think the Nobuo influence is pretty clear on that specific part haha!
Did the “musical director” for each song on Clear write the lyrics as well?
We all had the option to, we could even sing if we wanted, but everyone decided to leave vocal stuff up to Spencer since he is good with all that stuff haha.
Will there be any 6-string material on Clear?
Jake and Mark’s songs are on a 6. I believe Spencer’s and Matt’s are on a baritone 6 as well.
Misha, will the melodic theme in Clear be similar to that in PII with the lyrics in Muramasa, Ragnarok, and Masamune? Or will it be on a much grander scale? The theme is very overt in some songs, and much more subtle in others.
We were each allowed to choose how we wanted to integrate it into our song, so it appears quite differently each time.
